WICC Pet of The Week

Mister and Papa came to the Connecticut Humane Society with a few other kitties, but they loved each other the most. These 2 cats want to find a home together! They are both black and white, but you can tell them apart by Mister’s one black eyebrow and Papa’s black beard. Mister is 1 year old, while Papa is 2, and they both arrived feeling incredibly shy, but they’ve come out of their shells so much—Mister loves being pet and will sit in your lap, and while Papa now enjoys affection too, he loves exploring, scratching on his scratching post, playing, and jumping on the cat shelves in their room. Learn more about these sweet boys at CThumane.org/adopt! And get ready for Fairfield County’s Giving Day on Thursday, Feb. 24. It’s a give-a-thon by Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, and CHS pets are participating! When you give to the pets during the online event, they have a chance to win prizes and extra donations! Visit CThumane.org to learn more.

This morning we are featuring Edward, a beautiful adult Lionhead mix rabbit, Who is a white and gray fluff ball.  Edward is a good rabbit for first time rabbit owners BUT he needs regular grooming done. He is the sweetest boy who enjoys being held. One of the volunteers even carriers him and “sling” so her arms don’t get tired, that’s how much he seems to enjoy being cuddled! He is one of the fan favs at the shelter. The staff and critter cuddlers can’t say enough good things about him. To learn more or make an appointment to meet him, please visit online at cthumane.org.

Red is a 5 year old neutered male from Tulsa. He may be 5 but he looks like a puppy!
Red is a very sweet fun dog! He hasn’t been introduced to other dogs yet but so far he doesn’t seem to mind. There would have to do a dog intro If the potential adopter has a resident dog.
He came right before our last snow storm and gets chilly fast so his friends here have started putting a coat on him to keep him warmer.
If you’re interested in adopting Red or any of his friends at the shelter. Go to cthumane.org to fill out application!

Joanie is a one year old year old black and white pig! Joanie is not a smooth hair piggie, she has fluffy hair and is referred to as a teddy bear pig. Joanie came to the humane society with about 18 family members and most have gone home. Along with Joanie there are 10 additional pigs of different ages and colors so come and add a new family member to your household! Visit cthumane.org to learn more.

Bebe is a young cat with super sleek fur and a regal carriage. This two year old can be shy on first introduction but easily becomes quite affectionate and silly, rolling over and chirping. He would do well with a cat experienced family who loves a social companion but can give him space when needed. It’s unknown how he would do with dogs but may be able to adjust to a home with another cat. To learn more or to set up an appointment to meet him please visit CTHumane.org

This morning we are featuring Elizabeth, a beautiful adult guinea pig who is white with a black saddle and mask. There’s just something about Elizabeth! She is the sweetest girl and you can see it straight off the bat. Her disposition is so evident that out of the 20 odd other guinea pigs she came in with, the humane society staff immediately fell in love with her and one of them is even fostering her while she awaits her forever home. Due to her previous experience in a high volume guinea pig home, we find Elizabeth is territorial and defensive with other pigs so she should be the only piggie in the home. But that’s okay! Her social behavior with humans means she’ll fulfill all your tiny pet needs, from tv buddy to homework pal. To learn more or make an appointment to meet her, please visit online at cthumane.org.

Today we are featuring Mena a sleek black and white cat with so much playfulness in her! She was found on the streets with a litter of kittens. She is now vetted, spayed, and done with mothering duties so she can go back to being a kitten herself. She loves to head bump and will cuddle right up against you but she is most herself when scooting balls across her room or chasing the laser. Mena would like to live in a dog free home but is otherwise open to meeting any kind of family. To learn more, visit online at cthumane.org

Gorgeous Penny is a 2 year old, Tri-color Treeing Walker hound. She is a sweet and cuddly girl with a nose and mouth typical of a hound. Because she occasionally likes to yodel, we do recommend a single family home. She would be happy to be an only dog or one of a pair or pack. In foster she lived with a canine companion and they were inseparable. She might also do well with cats. She would make a great family pet with older children. Visit online at cthumane.org to learn more or to apply to meet her.

Today’s pet of the week is Harriet, a 10 year old female black cat. She has lovely yellow eyes and in the morning makes direct eye contact and watches until (or compels) you to deliver her meal ASAP. So far she hasn’t been a lap cat BUT when you sit with her she will stay close to seek pets and attention.

Visit cthumane.org and fill out an app for Harriet or one of her friends.

Meet Spice a 3 year old guinea pig! Her friends say while in her habitat she is neat for a pig and will be often found in her pigglo. She is on the shyer side but will let you pick her up and hold her. She probably will be best for a family with older kids.  People don’t always realize that guinea pigs can live to 8 years old so at 3 years old Spice has lots to give. There are a variety of G.ps and rabbits at the shelter like Spice that would love to be in your home! Visit the website at cthumane.org.

Michi is a sassy, street-smart, playful young cat. He is estimated to be about 2 years old but is still as into toys as a young kitten. He has good house manners and enjoys napping in the sun. He’s also very social and has never met a stranger. He will prefer to be the only pet in the home. To learn more, visit cthumane.org.

Some people think cats like to keep to themselves rather than give you attention. Well, they should meet Vera! She loves people, is playful, and likes to gently tap your head when she’s up high on her shelf! That’s her way of helping people while they clean her room! Vera is a 3-year-old calico who came to the Connecticut Humane Society after she bounced around a few homes that couldn’t keep her. Along the way, she met another cat and kids and did fine with all of them. This kitty doesn’t seem to like dogs though, so her new home should be dog-free. Vera can’t wait to meet you, so apply for her in her online profile at CThumane.org/adopt.

Do you remember the story of the velveteen rabbit? You can now adopt one of your own. Meet Bonnie, an 8 month old Rex French lop who has the cutest face and the softest fur. Like nearly all humane society rabbits she is litter box trained. She has been spayed and is ready to go to a home where she gets lots of free roaming time or is a full time house rabbit. An experienced house rabbit family for Bonnie would be best as she is of a delicate constitution and will require consistent monitoring of her eating and weight.

Melonie is a gorgeous orange tabby and an example of the hardest to place cats that come into shelters. She is older middle age (9) and is not immediately social with new people. To be clear, she is not afraid of humans and can hang out calmly in a busy environment, she just does not tolerate being petted by people she doesn’t yet know. When she is comfortable with a person she will allow pets and belly rubs (and she has a VERY inviting fluffy white tummy), but even with her loved ones she is more of a companion than a cuddler. Her previous family described her as being like a little dog, following you from room to room and then finding a place to snooze near by. She’s a cat for someone who enjoys a little spirit moving around their home but doesn’t need to pet and hold all the time. To learn more about her or to make an appointment to meet her, visit online at cthumane.org.

This girl is looking for a quiet home where she can be the only pet. She tends to find a spot from which to observe the activities around her. Her favorite is any box with a blanket set in it. She’ll get up to greet you and make you feel welcome, then settle nearby. Ruby is the perfect winter companion—a bit cuddly, a bit fluffy, and she won’t interrupt your tv show.

Today we have Jackie, a jumping bean of a puppy that is looking to find a home!

This 10 month old plot hound mix loves to play with other friendly dogs and cuddle with her humans. She will walk up to almost anyone with a wiggle and then roll over for belly rubs.

At just 10 months old she has a lot of life to live and love to give! Of course, at 10 months she is also the equivalent of a teenager. She’s full of energy and needs a LOT of exercise. Because she has been bounced around a lot as a youngster she is still working on basic house manners so will require a patient and experienced home that will provide outlets for her energy, consistency, and positive crate training. Due to her bounciness, she needs a home with children over 10.

To learn more, visit online at cthumane.org.

You know that expression “I was born ready”? This is the life philosophy of guinea pigs everywhere. As soon as a guinea pig is born he stands up, shakes off and starts to move around like a teeny tiny adult. CT Humane is well-versed in the behavior of young guinea pigs as unfortunately many adult female guinea pigs are surrendered there pregnant. These guinea pigs are sent into amazing foster homes who hand raise the babies to be the sweetest and tamest little creatures around.

Today’s pet of the week is one of those. A five week old guinea pig named Saturn. He is a healthy happy bouncy baby boy, ready to make someone a very sweet pet. Guinea pigs are herd animals, it is always recommend adopting in pairs (at least!) if you don’t already have one at home. Saturn has a brother here of the same age, and they enjoy each others company. Saturn is curious, funny little guy, with an eye always on the possibility of his next salad. To learn more about him or apply to adopt, visit online at CTHumane.org.
