Melissa in the Morning: Cutting Overtime Costs

Is the state really weighing whether to hire more cops or healthcare professionals? In a recent report in the Hartford Courant, it shows that overtime costs are in the tens of millions in multiple departments. The highest amounts were in the state prison system, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and state police. But now, lawmakers are debating hiring practices to cut overtime costs. We spoke with State Senator Jeff Gordon, a member of both the Appropriations and the Public Safety Committees.
